With Rocky’s brother Nish and cousin Nimish helping run the brand, Rocky Patel cigars is indeed a family affair. And Nish and Nimish aren’t just behind the scenes. We see them in interviews and elsewhere serving as faces for the brand. We even see them in the cigars, such as the Nimish Patel Thunder cigar blended by Nimish.
A dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper first catches the eye when scoping out a Nimish Patel Thunder cigar. This wrapper is so dark it appears Maduro, though that’s not the case. Since the wrapper comes from high priming leaves, it gets more sunlight and, in turn, a darker color.
Beneath this wrapper is an intriguing double binder consisting of Honduran and Nicaraguan leaves. This double binder conceals a core blend of long-fillers from Costa Rica. We are seeing more and more cigars utilizing the double binder. This is a welcome practice as it adds complexity to the blend.
The use of Costa Rican tobacco in Nimish Patel Thunder cigars is exciting. The tobacco farms of Costa Rica are built on mineral-rich volcanic soil, and the country’s climate is favorable for growing smooth, full-flavored tobacco. The Thunder cigar opens with notes of black and red pepper, which are quickly joined by caramel, espresso, and baking spice. This medium-full cigar earned a 90 rating and was named one of the Best Bargain Cigars of 2011 by Cigar Aficionado.
Please enjoy Nimish Patel Thunder cigars at your leisure.
