When you’re new to cigars, everything can be pretty overwhelming. There’s so many brands, so many wrappers, so many new terms to learn… and then there’s the equipment! Cutters, lighters, humidors… where the hell do you start?
Well, if you want Rocky Patel’s advice, start right here with the Vintage 1999 Connecticut!
This is where he says new cigar smokers should begin their journey, at least with his brand. The reasons are pretty obvious. You don’t want to get knocked on your ass the first time you smoke a cigar, right? Well, this one is nice and mild. That’s thanks to the classic 7-year aged Connecticut Shade wrapper. It’s a lot like taking your first drink. You don’t usually hop in on two fingers of Scotch – okay, sometimes you do, but you don’t usually have a good time after that – usually, you start small with a beer or something like that. This is the cigar equivalent.
The Vintage 1999 Connecticut features a Nicaraguan binder inside and a well-chosen 8-year aged Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend. The smoke is mild to medium-bodied and produces easygoing light woody flavors, with a slightly tangy finish. But don’t let the description fool you – there’s no reason a seasoned smoke hound wouldn’t enjoy this cigar when in the mood for something a bit lighter. We don’t always fire up super spicy 40-pound Oscuros, right? Some days you just need a little something to puff on to pass the time while you have a coffee.
Keep a couple of these smokes in the humi for when those occasions arise.
