While working as an entertainment and product liability lawyer in Los Angeles, Rocky Patel was first introduced to premium cigars by his cigar smoking girlfriend in the early 1990s. He fell hard for cigars, and it wasn’t long before he joined the Grand Havana Club in Los Angeles. During this time, a business plan to produce cigars was presented to Rocky.
Patel’s first brand, Indian Tabac Cigar Co, rolled its cigars in Honduras. The brand made its debut at the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America (RTDA) Trade Show in 1996. The company is named after the Indian Motorcycle brand, for which Rocky licensed use of the name. At RTDA, The Indian Tabac booth was swamped with retailers scooping up these new cigars with bold, brightly colored packaging. This was during the cigar boom, which Rocky, unlike much of his competition, would survive.
In 2003, Rocky changed the Indian Tabac name to Rocky Patel Premium Cigars. The first brand to bear his name was the celebrated Rocky Patel Vintage Series, and you’ll find plenty of these in Rocky Patel cigar samplers.
