In the 90s, two frat brothers from Oneonta State would go on a tobacco adventure that would change the world of cigars forever.

Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel had a kiosk in the old World Trade Center (rest in peace), and sold cigars. But supplies would often run low. It was a different time for cigar smokers and a market flush with product would be a thing of the future. In the 90s, Cigar Aficionado had just been launched and people were still struggling to get a hold of decent cigars. To keep inventory on their shelves, the boys worked with a local roller to create their own brand:

La Vieja Habana.

In 1996, Drew Estate was launched too, with the tagline, “The Rebirth of Cigars.”

They turned out to be pretty on the money with that one!

After that, Drew the “Crazy Gringo” moved down to Estelí, Nicaragua to go all in and start his own cigar factory. The rest is history. He took his massive balls and got straight to work, blending up whatever interested him. What he wound up creating was a wealth of cigars that are almost too numerous to keep track of, at this point. But let’s try.

There’s the flavor-infused ACIDs, one of Drew Estate’s best sellers, which deliver an innovative smoking experience that would take us all out of grandpappy’s lounger and into the 21st Century. The new-wave aromas were so intriguing that other infused lines would later be released, like the espresso notes of the Tabak Especial cigars and exotic spice of the Ambrosias.

Perhaps the company’s finest offering is the chart-topping Liga Privada No. 9, which won the esteem of the aficionados, and opened up a whole series of lines unto itself. These include the earthy Undercrowns, the rich T52s, and the Unico experimental Liga blend series, where you’ll find the Feral Flying Pig, Dirty Rat, Ratzilla, L40, and more.

There’s also Nica Rustica to showcase Nicaraguan tobacco, the Deadwood ladies who bring sweetness with a kick, Kentucky Fire Cured smokes that take you straight to a southern barbeque or campfire, and the My Uzi Weighs a Ton (MUWAT) cigars that pack in monster flavor.

Now, in the 96,000-square-foot factory La Gran Fabrica, Drew Estate rolls up cigar after cigar, much to the pleasure of the smoking world. All of this leads to one simple point: when Drew Estate drops a cigar, we don’t ask questions. We just grab a lighter.
