Talk about a throwback! There’s really nothing modern about this cigar, except for some of the tobacco used.
So, what makes Montecristo Le Cigare des Arts cigars unique? Well, it’s all about the art, upfront. That’s what inspired the blend and cigar line. Montecristo teamed up with French artist Michel Delacroix, commissioning him to create the box and tube art.
His style has been referred to as “naif” and “primitive.” We actually think the idea behind this will appeal to a lot of people here. Instead of being required to work within the confines of a particular style, a naïve artist works outside of formal techniques and training. This is often a natural artist who, instead of going to art school, simply makes art.
We can get behind that.
Delacroix’s works often depict the beauty and vibrant life of his home city of Paris. He put his skill to work creating gorgeous boxes and tubes for the Montecristo Le Cigare des Arts cigar line. These look like the type of thing that would be given as a special gift to the art lover in your life. The boxes would be right at home as a display piece in a study, lounge, or other swanky space.
As for the cigar itself…
The filler blend is Dominican and Brazilian tobacco, and the wrapper is Indonesian. Actually, the cover leaf was an exclusive – used only for this blend by Montecristo. This means you get quite a lot of flavor and complexity out of these smokes. Perfect for taking in art, swirling a drink, and puffing away while you contemplate just how sophisticated you really are.
The experience itself is not competing with world-class chart-toppers. The Montecristo Le Cigare des Arts got an 86 point rating with Cigar Aficionado back in the day, who tasted “black pepper notes and hints of leather and spice developing.” It’s worth enjoying if you’re an art fan, but not if you’re in search of the next great cigar for your humidor.
