You’ve probably heard of the legendary Montecristo No. 2, which is a product of the Cuban version of this historic cigar company. Because we are prohibited from selling those due to the federal embargo, we instead sell the fine luxury handmade cigars made by the Dominican Montecristo company.
They’re not copycats. Instead, each version of the company goes head to head, producing outstanding blends that are all their own. The Montecristo Platinum is one of the highest-scoring cigars created by the Dominican cigar company, and it features quite the selection of tobaccos!
For the long-leaf filler mix, you’ll find leaf from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Peru. While the first two are well known, the inclusion of Peruvian tobacco definitely adds something you won’t get in every cigar. On top of that, there’s a Dominican binder and a zesty San Andrés Habano wrapper.
In a glowing review, Cigar Aficionado described how “Every puff of this well-made [cigar] imparts the dense, concentrated qualities of dried fruit, smacking of raisin, black cherry and baked plum around a core of earth and hickory. A touch of pepper pops up before the leathery finish.”
It’s a burner, for sure.
While many people are focused on what the Cuban Montecristo creates (with good reason), they might totally miss what is one of the very best cigars made in recent years. The Montecristo Platinum knocks it out of the park, offering a tremendously satisfying flavor that you’re going to want a five-pack of so that you can get a few more opportunities to enjoy.
After that, you’ll be googling box prices.
This one is the real deal, and while it may not necessarily be “setting the standard for handmade luxury cigars,” as the company touts, it’s definitely displaying some of the nicest blendings on the modern cigar market. It’s quite a feat for a company with this much history to keep pushing forward to ensure that its cigar portfolio represents the best of what today’s tobaccos have to offer. For Montecristo, it’s just another day of commitment to quality.
