When you’re over a century old, what’s another mere decade of waiting, right?

The Epic cigars line has been built around vintage tobacco since the first release, with each blend bringing solid medium-full strength and flavor to keep smoke hounds happy. The first release (simply known as Montecristo Epic) used vintage 2007 leaf in the Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend and earned a 91 rating for its creamy, woody smoke. The follow-up (Epic Craft Cured) featured a 2006 Nicaraguan rosado Oscuro wrapper grown by the Plasencias and delivered an interesting profile of citrus and wheat that many enjoyed.

The Montecristo Epic Vintage 2012 cigars are another welcome evolution of this always-intriguing line. These come in closer to medium in strength, but pack an astounding amount of taste and aroma into the stick thanks to a blend that pulls tobacco from a variety of different soils.

The blend was overseen by Rafael Nodal of Aging Room fame – the man responsible for the 2019 Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year, the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua. Inside the filler, the blend is where you’ll find the vintage Dominican leaf that makes the Montecristo Epic 12 cigar unique. This leaf has been developing and maturing since its harvest in 2012 and is now fully ready for smoking. This high-quality choice of long-filler is combined with Nicaraguan tobacco, and both are then bound in more Dominican leaf. On the outside, to up the ante, you’ll find an exotic Ecuador Sumatra wrapper with the handsome coppery-brown color of a well-worn penny.
