Maybe it’s the unmistakable yellow box or the badass six sword logo that makes Montecristo cigars one of the most iconic Cuban heritage brands around. More likely, though, it’s their excellent performance and top-shelf taste. You’ll find these qualities and more in any of our Montecristo cigar samplers.
What makes Montecristo cigar samplers so exceptional? Well, it’s hard to go wrong with samplers filled with cigars this high in quality. One is the innovative Monte By Montecristo, which uses two binders instead of one to create an arresting flavor that is both robust and complex. Another is the 91-rated Montecristo Classic which offers a variety of flavors, from wood to honey.
Whatever your preference, Montecristo cigar samplers deliver that and more.
Alonso Menendez founded Montecristo in 1935 after he acquired the Particulares factory in Cuba. In those days, a lector would read from a book to keep morale up among the cigar rollers. Menendez chose one of the rollers’ favorites, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, as the brand’s new name, cleverly combining the two words to symbolize the creation of something new.
For 25 years, Menendez and company would produce excellent cigars known for flavor and quality. That all changed on September 15, 1960, when Fidel Castro ordered soldiers to seize and nationalize 16 cigar factories, Montecristo among them. But even the unforgiving advance of communism couldn’t stop this legend from growing. Menedez fled Cuba and set up shop in the Canary Islands to continue manufacturing under a new name — Montecruz.
Today, Montecristo cigars are made in both Cuba and the Dominican Republic, with the Dominican version receiving excellent reviews and boasting a product that’s a staple in humidors across America. Want to know what all the fuss is about and why the name “Montecristo” is synonymous with cigars? These samplers will help you understand.
