Years ago at the 2011 International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers (IPCPR), Alec Bradley unveiled a fun new cigar. Lots of companies come to industry tradeshows like this with something fun to generate some buzz, and Alec Bradley was no different. They had their new blend in a box that looked like an old-school wooden shipping crate. Honestly, it was the kind of thing that shady arms dealers would unload from the back of trucks in a movie. You could just imagine opening it with a crowbar, and then showing off a stack of AK-47s in some dusty clandestine rendezvous spot. The only payment of course would be a silver briefcase full of banded cash.
You know, black market stuff.
The blend was well received. It scored decently with reviewers, ultimately notching a 90 rating with Cigar Aficionado. It delivered potency, flavor, and a little intrigue. Featuring tobaccos from four different nations, this was a blend for people who like to mix things up. There was a long-filler from Honduras and Panama, an Ecuador Sumatra binder, and a Nicaraguan wrapper leaf leading the way. It was a real rich puff that definitely departed from the ordinary.
Now, Black Market has become something of a brand unto itself. There’s the original but also twists like Black Market Estelí and Black Market Filthy Hooligan (which itself now has some inventive variations). This cigar is built around the state of mind that you can combine things from around the world and come up with something fun and lively that purists could never achieve in quite the same way.
Tired of what’s on the shelves? Take a turn down that shady alley and hit up the black market. Alec Bradley’s got something you’re gonna love.
