Eduardo Fernández, the founder of Casa Fernandez Cigars, traveled to Nicaragua in 1998 with the goal of growing the world’s finest tobacco to recreate the spirit of bygone era Cuban cigars. Before heading to Nicaragua, Fernández made a stop in Cuba where he assembled a team of Cuban agronomists working at the highest levels of Cubatabaco (the Castro regime’s state tobacco company) and flew them to Nicaragua. These men held the secrets to Cuban-grown tobacco which Fernández hoped to unlock.
What they cultivated in Nicaragua is named Aganorsa Leaf. Almost a quarter-century later, Aganorsa Leaf is now famed for a signature flavor made up of all the characteristics of Nicaraguan terroir in combination with the classic Cuban flavor and aroma.
In 2018, Casa Fernandez Cigars changed its name to Aganorsa Leaf to highlight its greatest asset. The company is one of the largest tobacco growers in Nicaragua. There they produce Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 in Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega. These are sold to cigar makers worldwide, and a reserve is set aside for the Aganorsa Leaf company.
While the company name changed, the Casa Fernandez cigar line is still alive and well in the Aganorsa Leaf portfolio. It was important for the company to have what makes them unique—the Aganorsa Leaf—be what people associate with the company.
In addition to being one of the biggest tobacco growers in Nicaragua, the company owns and operates factories in Jalapa, Estelí, and a boutique factory in Miami.
Among the most popular Casa Fernandez blends is the Casa Fernandez Miami, a potent Nicaraguan puro which Cigar Aficionado named its No. 12 cigar of 2011. Another is the Casa Fernandez Arsenio Oro, fueled by aged tobacco from the famed Aganorsa farm in Estelí to celebrate master blender Arsenio Ramos’s 80th birthday. And then there’s the Casa Fernandez Miami Reserva and its use of Medio Tiempo leaf, even higher priming than Ligero. The result is a medium-full flavor-packed must-smoke cigar.
Whatever your pleasure is, Casa Fernandez cigars offer you a way to get that and more.
Please enjoy Casa Fernandez cigars at your leisure.
