Does the thought of forgotten premium cigars lost to time keep you up at night? Do you live with the ongoing fear that you're missing out on some great mystery smoke? Do you wish you could roam the planet exploring aging rooms and the like for these lost tobacco treasures? Well, now you can watch those worries melt away from the privacy of your favorite smoking chair, thanks to Robert Caldwell and his team.
The Caldwell Lost and Found project is a collaboration between Robert Caldwell of Caldwell Cigars, Tony Bellatto, owner La Barba cigars, and Jaclyn Sears of Caldwell Cigars. Caldwell and his companions travel around searching out vintage cigars left in aging rooms and elsewhere for any number of reasons. Caldwell acquires the cigars and brings them stateside. Next, Sears takes care of the artwork, and Bellatto works out the distribution and serves as the project head.
When you buy Caldwell Lost and Found Chance cigars, you support the Toys for Tots charity. The mission of Toys for Tots boils down to collecting new, unopened toys to gift to kids in need at Christmas. The packaging for Caldwell Lost and Found Chance cigars shows a happy brown teddy bear holding a beach ball with a matching hat. This fun guy is even waving to thank you for your selflessness and desire to help the kids.
The packaging reads, "Benefits from the sale of this project buys a toy for a child in need." There's nothing like enjoying a one-of-a-kind smoke and sending a Christmas gift to a good kid who just happens to be less fortunate. And this is a year-round effort, so your summer cigar still hooks that good kid up with a toy come the holiday season.
The Chance cigars are packing a blend of aged long-fillers from the United States, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua. Surrounding this tri-country blend is a Sumatran binder. A Nicaraguan Habano wrapper brings us home, and this once-lost stick is ready to treat. The result is a succulent experience of brown sugar, vanilla, and red pepper.
Please enjoy Caldwell Lost and Found Chance cigars at your leisure.

Caldwell Lost & Found Chance
Caldwell Lost & Found Chance robusto is a medium bodied stick. It starts out medium strength, but ends up, in my opinion full strength. The tobacco is supposedly Nicaraguan and Dominican depending upon whose vital stats you believe. Some claim there is some Sumatran (binder) and even U.S. grown tobacco in the filler. Caldwell often keeps the tobaccos “undisclosed” so who knows? The flavors include a bit of cream, chocolate/cocoa, wood, earth, leather, some pepper and aged tobacco. There is no balance though. Too much earth and leather drown out the other notes making it bitter and harsh. The retrohale was even more harsh and bitter only adding to my displeasure. The draw was super tight. Neeed to use my handy Perfect Draw to open it up. It helped, but the draw still offered too much resistance. A couple of toothpick pushes opened up the draw for awhile, but the draw remained very tight. The smoke output was thin. I can say the burn line was decent and it produce a solid, lengthy ash with no wrapper issues. Environment has an impact on our experience with cigars. I smoked it on the back patio on a chilly, cloudy, breezy day and during the final third it started to rain. I doubt that sunny and 70 would have helped, but I may try this cigar again someday when the weather is better – or indoors. Based on this smoke, I must say I am beyond underwhelmed by the Caldwell Lost & Found Chance.
