Room 101 Anniversary Cigars are blended to celebrate the history of a young company that has now passed its first major milestone. While some of the legendary names in the industry have been around for over a hundred years and multiple generations of family, the newcomers can count it as a major success to simply survive over a decade of competition in a fairly saturated market.
For Room101 founder Matt Booth, he’s done more than just survive. Experts and tastemakers awarded Room 101 cigars decent ratings in the early years, but the team has steadily improved over time. With Cigar Aficionado putting the 92-point Room101 Farce on its Top 25 Cigars list for 2019 (at #22), the company’s official entry into the winner’s circle came just in time for the launch of Room 101 Anniversary Cigars.
That year marked a decade in business and a seat at the “Grownups Table.” It was time to celebrate.
Booth started with a 10th Anniversary cigar, which was packed with a feast of tobaccos including an Indonesian binder and a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. Leather, cola, and herbal notes made this one a very special smoke to enjoy while reflecting on ten years of growth for a company focused on “a progressive approach to both blending and product design.”
The next year saw a continuation with the Room 101 11th Anniversary cigar – a Nicaraguan puro with a rich Maduro wrapper. It was bready, cocoa-y, and spicy, which led Halfwheel to give it 89 points and describe it as “a very enjoyable addition to the Room101 brand.”
We’re looking forward to many more anniversary blends as time goes on. As we write this, the 12th is on the way!
Once upon a time, Booth’s artistry was focused on his jewelry company, but some creative types keep growing as the years go on. A cigar journey that started in Honduras with Camacho contacts teaching him the business from the ground up has evolved into something quite special.
