Rocky Patel manages to combine two traits that seem totally contradictory: he is one of the most successful upstart blenders of the cigar boom of the '90s who challenged old conventions but also produced cigars that can only be described as “classic” since the very beginning. No-nonsense blends in classic Vitolas make Rocky Patel a staple for many smokers – you won't see any unheard-of tobaccos or barrel-aging with RP: just legit cigars at great prices.
So it's no surprise that one of the most popular Rocky Patel sizes is also the most classic: the Robusto.
Rocky Patel Robusto cigars are the epitome of a reliable but slightly indulgent cigar. Like other Robusto's, Rocky Patel Robusto cigars are just the right size for any occasion smoking: large enough to fit the bill but small enough that odds are you'll smoke them to the nub even if you're in a rush.
Luckily, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to Rocky Patel Robusto cigars. But some cigars that just work in a Robusto – here are three of our favorite Rocky Patel Robusto cigars:
Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 RobustoWhat do you see when you think of a Rocky Patel cigar? Odds are it's one of the box-pressed Rocky Patel Robusto cigars. And the most time-tested of all those many box-pressed Rocky Patel Robusto cigars is the Rocky Patel Vintage 1992.
The Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers are spicy, earthy, and rich. But the wrapper is where it's at this Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf has been aged for ten years. Combine that with the cool-as-can-be box-pressed Robusto and you've got a slick, classic stick that produces mind-blowing amounts of smoke with big flavors of cream, coffee, earth, and roasted nuts. The epitome of all that's great about Rocky Patel Robusto cigars.
Rocky Patel Decade RobustoIf any of the other Rocky Patel Robusto cigars can compete with the Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 for most-classic Robusto, it's the Rocky Patel Decade. Like the Vintage, all Decades are box-pressed and can generally be found wherever cigars are sold or smoked. Not as luxurious as the Vintage, the Decade is more of a tried-and-true standby with creamy flavors of leather, oak, black cherry, and cocoa.
Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve RobustoAnother of the many classic Rocky Patel Robusto cigars, the Olde World Reserve trades in RP's modernist looks for a band and box that evoke an old map and the age of exploration. The cigar is just as honest and traditional with two equally good options: Maduro or Corojo. The Maduro is earthy and sweet with lots of rich chocolate and only a hint of pepper. The Corojo delivers woody leather and sweet graham cracker, with a little dry cocoa powder. Not as exclusive as the Vintage or as popular as the Decade, the Olde World Reserve is still one of the best Rocky Patel Robusto cigars.
