At the time of this writing, Geronimo Cigars is still flying under the radar, although a look online at some social media channels will tell you that the El Principio blend is definitely gaining some traction. Geronimo Cigars are new-ish still, founded in 2013, but not releasing a blend broadly until 2017. Down here in Tampa, the word is still spreading slowly, like a burn line creeping toward the head of a cigar.
We expect it won’t be that way forever. Not with the creative flair we’re seeing from this team.
“To great experiences” is what you’ll get as a motto from Geronimo Cigars. We actually love that. It’s simple and gets right to the point of what you want from a cigar. It’s really not about premium tobacco, a multi-generational pedigree, or striking band art necessarily. Cigars boil down to the experience, and Geronimo wants to ensure that when you light up one of their blends, you get the real deal.
One big way they do this is to control or at least monitor as many aspects of cigar making as they can. Their research showed that consistency is key if you want to make a world-class cigar, and so they resolved to always sweat the details so that they could make sure that their product would always be worthy of the Geronimo name.
Another peek at their Instagram feed will show you what the team has been up to over the past years and what image they’re conveying. Shots of dinners and drinks between founders Ariel Geronimo and Jorge Rodriguez as they overlook scenic vistas in the Dominican Republic or Nicaragua will put you in the mood for a fresh hand-rolled stogie and a wine or an appropriate liquor pairing. The good life is out there, and a Geronimo cigar fits right in.
These ain’t your average stick, either. If you have a look through their collection, you might see straightforward cigars named after their wrappers. The Premium Select and Newspaper Edition collections both feature simple-seeming cigars like the Pigtail Habano, Triple Wrapper, and Candela. But if you keep browsing, you’ll eventually find the Fantasy Collection. These display the skilled artistry of rollers in unbelievable designs of Maduro on a Natural leaf. From standard barber poles to moons, logos, dragons… it’s truly astounding what can be done with tobacco, and the Geronimo team has definitely got something special there.
