Tim Ozgener was once a leader at CAO cigars, founded by his father Cano. In 2010, ownership changed hands, and General Cigar Co. took over the CAO portfolio. Ozgener headed out. But as we’ve learned from Room 101’s Matt Booth and others, just when you think you’re out, it this industry PULLS YOU BACK IN!
And so, boom: Ozgener Family Cigars, which we have listed as Crowned Heads Ozgener cigars.
This is thanks to the partnership and distribution setup the companies have together. In fact, it looks like Ozgener was always a part owner of Crowned Heads. He was lurking in the industry all along! But he’s a silent partner no more, and we can enjoy a new wave of blends from his highly capable mind.
Ozgener Bosphorus cigars are the release du jour, packed with flavor in true Crowned Heads style. The long-filler blend is Nicaraguan, bunched into a double binder of Nicaraguan leaf and Ecuadorian Connecticut. This package is then sealed up in Ecuadorian Sumatra tobacco. It’s a heady mix that offers nutty graham crackers, earth, pepper, and creamy honey flavors. The Sumatra brings in those aromatic notes, while the Nicaraguan selections bring in classic peppery sweet tobacco.
You’ll probably see some nice ratings for this one in time if it sticks around long enough to make a wide impression. If not, it’ll be an under-the-radar blend that you smoke once and wonder when you can get your hands on some more.
Ozgener’s parents are from Turkey, where the famous Bosphorus Strait is found, in case you were wondering.
What brought him back into the life? He reviewed his memories and found the “happiest times were in the cigar business.” He noticed that, during these times, he was “creating products that brought joy, laughter, and positive moments for all kinds of people…” it seems simple enough to say, hey, why not get back to that.
And so here we are.
