The Undercrown blend continues the legacy of the irresistible Liga Privada No. 9, which was originally just a private blend for the Drew Estate team's own smoking. Once it was shared for public consumption and rolling quantities were increased, however, the rolling team couldn't let the cigar go. A lot of the line was going up in smoke before it even made it upstairs.

We can't blame them. They loved the smoke as much as the rest of us do.

After all, they have the temptation of rolling it up, day after day. There's no way to handle world-class smokes and not want to indulge. The issue, of course, is that the company is a business, not an all-day smoking club (we're sure the line blurs constantly). Eventually, the order came down from on high that some of the Liga Privadas had to make it into boxes for sale, and the rollers were told to chill.

Life, ah finds a way.

The rollers put together the next best thing. Using different vintages and primings, they made a factory version and went right on smoking. Everyone was happy. But because the Liga has such a strong blending profile, even this new smoke was really freaking good. It had to be shared with the world, too, and Undercrown was born. As soon as it was out, it nabbed #25 cigar of the year honors from Cigar Aficionado in 2017.

Now, this is the latest limited edition Undercrown, the Box Pressed Toro, which we can share thanks to our Drew Estate Lounge hookup.

The blend is a doozy. Outside, for the Maduro version, there's a mottled wrapper of Otapan Negro ultimo Corte tobacco from Mexico. The binder is from the USA (believe it or not): a T52 Connecticut River Valley Stalk Cut Cured Habano. The filler blend inside is Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan Cuban Seed tobaccos.

Toast it up, and you'll be treated to dark coffee, earth, and nuts, with a sweet pepper finish. It's a satisfying blend in a line that never disappoints. Grab some before they disappear!
