How did we get from there to here?
Well, Tatuaje was launched thanks to a partnership with José “Don Pepin” Garcia and his world-famous My Father cigars factory. The first Tatuaje blend to get any notoriety was a Don Pepin blend – the Cabinet Tainos cigar that was the #4 cigar of 2005 with a 93 rating. It sort of put both Don Pepin and Pete Johnson into the modern western cigar industry conversation. But not all Tatuajes were made by the My Father team. Instead, there were a few that were made by Tabacalera Tropical.
Tatuaje Nuevitas Jibaro was one of them.
Eventually, the Tatuaje Nuevitas cigar lines were discontinued, and the company moved on. But clearly, this was a blend that Pete Johnson simply couldn’t quit, and it’s back and better than ever.
The long-filler blend is made with Nicaraguan tobacco, as you might expect. For a wrapper leaf, the company went with Corojo ’99 tobacco. The cigar still has that same shaggy foot, which lets you get a taste of the filler before the full blend with wrapper kicks in. When it does, you’ll be treated to the flavors of leather, chocolate, almonds, and wood. It’s a delicious Nicaraguan puro.
You never know what you’ve got until it’s gone. But if you’re lucky, you’ll have a chance to enjoy it with a fresh perspective all over again. Nuevitas fans – this cigar is back from the grave and absolutely fantastic. Make sure you don’t miss it this time!
