Oh, Maduro tobacco, how we love thee! And how we love Tatuaje Maduro cigar offerings.
The funny thing is: Tatuaje didn’t build its reputation on Maduro cigars. The company has become famous over the years for Cubanesque smokes that put Nicaraguan tobacco to incredibly effective use in blends that put out complex and highly satisfying flavors and aromas. The reason is straightforward: Tatuaje collaborates closely with My Father Cigars founder and master blender “Don Pepin” Garcia. This means cigars that deliver a classic pepper note upfront, and that then develop into interesting woody and nutty profiles. It’s a timeless way to build a smoke and one that has served the company well, landing it on the Cigar Aficionado Top 25 Cigars of the Year list time and time again.
But today, we’re talking about Tatuaje Maduros.
There are two Tatuajes that probably represent the company’s best cigars in a long-fermented wrapper.
The first is the bold and spicy Fausto. This intense and complex full-strength cigar carries a 93 rating and is a good pick for people who like a Tatuaje with a robust flavor profile. It’s not for the faint of heart – so please know what you’re getting into. They didn’t choose a name from a diabolical legend for no reason!
There’s also the Cabaiguan, which is a traditional Maduro from Tatuaje in the sense that the flavor profile is exactly what you’d expect from that type of cigar. The Tatuaje Cabaiguan is meaty and leathery, with strong notes of coffee and chocolate. It was the #7 cigar of 2011 and has been rated as high as 93 points by Cigar Aficionado, so this is probably our leading pick when it comes to a prototypical Tatuaje cigar, Maduro.
Tatuaje offers a number of other Maduro wrapped cigars, including some in the Monster Series (Chuck, Jason, and the Face), the Reserva Broadleaf, the Conoju 2012, and the all-broadleaf Casita Criolla. Yeah, we know. It’s a fun one. If you’re a flavor hound, it’s absolutely worth a smoke just to take in and become one with that complex and sweet mature tobacco.
Maduro wrappers give a little variety to Tatuaje’s standard lineup and portfolio of cigars, and we’re happy to have them at hand every now and then. Won’t you join us?
