So many cigar companies are all about family. As a reputation for quality is built and handed down, each generation makes its mark, leaving behind at least a few fine sticks to add to the family humidor. The Garcia family, owners of My Father cigars, are no different. For now, Don Pepin (the patriarch and founder) is still on top, but his son Jaime Garcia has worked steadily to carve out his own place in the My Father story.
Fortunately, he had an amazing teacher to learn from. Don Pepin is a Tabaquero Maestro (master blender) and has won awards for his astounding rolling skill and productivity. Few people will have an opportunity like that! The Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial cigar is Jaime’s first foray into a blend that’s all his own.
For his kickoff wrapper he’s chosen a nice, dark Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro. Inside the cigar there’s a blend of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobacco from Garcia family farms and the legendary Oliva fields. The My Father Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial 2017 Limited Edition also includes two leaves of Pelo D’Oro tobacco, a traditional Cuban strain that can be tricky to grow. At the end of the day, we’ll say this: Jaime’s blend has potent flavor! Earth, cedar, espresso, and a strong pepper bite all will greet you when you light this one up. We think Garcia the younger is off to a great start, especially considering the 90 ratings this one has already earned. Undoubtedly, the first things we ever rolled up weren’t so fine.
