What’s a toro?
Also known as a Corona Gorda, this cigar is around 6 x 50, offering a fairly medium smoke time without going over the top. Plan for an hour or so of puffing. There’s nothing too fancy going on with the shape. A toro is a parejo, with straight sides, an open foot, a rounded head, and no unusual tapering. Just clip the head or punch it with your cutter and it's ready to go.
Let’s get into the blends you’ll find in the My Father Fresh Pack 5 Toro Sampler II.
La Gran Oferta
This My Father Cigars sampler begins with La Gran Oferta. Using the Garcia’s signature Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, this stogie features a tasty bunch of Nicaraguan tobaccos inside. The flavors tend to be darker for some reason here, with notes of black pepper, dark chocolate, and cherries. This is an old Cuban brand that José “Don Pepin” Garcia, founder of My Father Cigars, brought back as part of his modern portfolio.
Don Pepin Garcia Original
Also known as “Don Pepin Blue,” this blend was among the early offerings from My Father. As with many of his Cubanesque smokes, the spotlight is on the Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper. Giving a classic flavor profile, this one smokes up with sweet coffee, chocolate, leather, and spice. It’s a trip down memory lane for fans who remember the time before My Father Cigars was the two-time Cigar of the Year winning elite company it is today.
Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial
The third blend in the My Father Fresh Pack 5 Toro Sampler II is one from Don Pepin’s son Jaime, who is blessed to be learning from some of the best cigarmakers in the industry. Departing from dad’s dedication to traditional leaf, the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial features a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper to go on top of the Nicaraguan long-fillers grown by both the Garcias and Olivas. With a little bit of Don Pepin’s famous Pelo d’Oro tobacco to complete the mixture, this one is nice and potent. Toast it up for a strong pepper bite, along with notes of earth, cedar, and espresso.
El Centurion is a tenth-anniversary revival of an earlier blend. This one is a smorgasbord of Nicaraguan tobacco, with Criollo, Corojo Habano, Sancti Spiritus, and criollo ‘98 finishing things off as the wrapper. It’s a treat for traditionalists, with flavors of leather and pepper while being spicy and sweet.
Last up in the My Father Fresh Pack 5 Toro Sampler II is the 92-rated nod to Cuban history, La Antiguedad. Here again, you’ll get to enjoy the prized Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper atop three kinds of filler tobacco from San Rafael, Las Quebradas, and San Jose in Nicaragua. The double binder of Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo leaf stabilizes the flavor profile as these aged tobaccos mingle into something truly delicious. Raisins, toffee, and walnuts all appear in this balanced, medium-strength cigar that caps off a classic My Father cigar sampler.
Please enjoy the My Father Fresh Pack 5 Toro Sampler II at your leisure.
