When you hear “red dot” do you suddenly feel like you’re in the crosshairs of a sniper? Fear not! The only thing you’ll get hit with here is a s**t ton of flavor. The Cohiba Red Dot is definitely in the range of cigars that we would call a “flavor bomb.” We know that term can be thrown around a little bit loosely, but here at Cigars Direct, we don’t use it lightly. This one isn’t super complex, but the ones we’ve had have been really rich in the flavors they show, keeping us chomping and smacking our lips as we go along.
Perhaps most famously, people have tasted and talked about the flavor of French burnt peanuts. If you can’t recall it, they’re those little red bumpy candy peanuts that used to be available at the penny candy shop by the scoopful. Even if you don’t order any Cohiba Red Dots, pick up some French burnt peanuts the next time you want a fun sweet snack for a trip down memory lane.
The Cohiba Red Dot cigar features a nice rustic, toothy Cameroon wrapper on the outside, along with an Indonesian Jember tobacco binder and Dominican Piloto Cubano filler. They went all around the world for this cigar, so we’ve got to give it the respect it deserves. You really couldn’t get a more complicated cigar blend together unless you were using Martian tobacco or undersea tobacco, both of which will probably be in Drew Estate sticks by the end of the decade.
Smoke that comes from this cigar is medium-bodied, but full of flavor, as we said above. You’ll get that signature woody note from the Cameroon wrapper, a nice hit of spice, and that fun nutty flavor that people seem to enjoy so much about this one. You’ll get a really nice depth of flavor, even if things are super-complicated as you go along. It’s a fine smoke that absolutely has earned a spot in our humidors (good thing ours are friggin’ massive!)
For those who might be confused, there are two different Cohiba companies in the world. One is run by Habanos S.A. based in Cuba, and the other is owned by General Cigar Company, and is run out of the Dominican Republic. This cigar is made by the Dominican Cohiba company, not the Cuban one. It’s a fantastic blend, but we always want to be clear about what our customers are getting.
