CLE Signature THT-EKE
It’s got a Cameroon wrapper, grown in Honduras. That’s the idea here, in a nutshell.
Funky? Yes. Intriguing? No doubt.
For those who don’t know, Cameroon tobacco is typically grown in Africa and is known for three things: 1) its exotic woody flavor, 2) its fragility (rips like cheap single ply if you treat it roughly), and 3) the toothiness of the leaf itself. Toothiness is the presence of little bumps on a tobacco leaf that hold pockets of oil, and it’s neither a good nor bad thing – just a note on appearance.
Cameroon tobacco like that found in the wrapper of the CLE Signature THT-EKE cigar has been used to outstanding effect on top-rated blends like the Arturo Fuente Hemingway and Don Carlos series, Cohiba Red Dot, Oliva Serie G, and others. But the big difference is, that this leaf wasn’t grown on the western coast of Africa, it was raised in Honduras (like CLE founder Christian Luís Eiroa himself).
Other than that, we’re on our own.
The blend came out fantastic, whatever they did with it. Light it up and take in the flavors of cedar, hay, and cinnamon coffee. There are many blenders out there who, when they hand you an unidentified cigar, get excited. Eiroa is one of them, and so he can get away with stuff like this. If you’re in the market for a strange new blend, this is a fun candidate to grab a stick of and give it a shot.
