In a brand packed with special cigars, how can a blender top him or herself? How do you take things up to another level when you’re already producing world-class smokes that people would dump a row out of their humidor just to get their hands on?
Ask the Ashton folks.
Better yet, ask the Arturo Fuente team, because they’re behind most of Ashton’s cigar production.
In this case, the sun itself gave an answer: use all sun grown tobaccos and ditch the shade for a change! Thus the name, “Puro Sol” - pure sun. That is, each type of leaf used in the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol is sun-grown, from the wrapper to the binder, to the fillers within. The filler blend won’t surprise you too much. It’s the core of many Ashton sticks and too outstanding to mess with. That’s the reliable quality tobacco that the entire brand is built on. The wrapper, however, is a Cameroon strain that bathed in the sun until it reached flavorful maturity.
The blend is outstanding, but not all leaves can make the cut. Cameroon leaf is notoriously hard to work with, so only a small selection of each crop can ultimately be used in this line. The ones that make it, however, add a fantastic dimension to an already classic blend. For this reason, the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol has hit the Cigar Aficionado Top 25 list twice, being praised for its notes of “leather, coffee, and chocolate sweetness.”
