Some of the greatest triumphs in life are born out of tragedy. The story behind the OpusX Angel’s Share cigar is one such story.
In 2012, a fire broke out in the Fuente tobacco warehouses in the Dominican Republic that ruined priceless tobacco that had been aging for decades. The Fuente family was saving these leaves for a special, 100th anniversary cigar. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as the fire consumed too much of it.
The “angel’s share,” as they say.
For those who don’t know, in wine and spirit making, a certain portion of product will evaporate as alcohol ages in the barrel. Carlos Fuente Jr. thought that, in the case of his fire, the angels must have enjoyed a great smoke as the warehouse burned that day. He decided to make a line as a tribute to that event.
Using leaves from the middle or “heart” of the tobacco plant, instead of the more common primings taken from near the top, Fuente created a different kind of blend. The OpusX Angel’s Share cigar features a balanced, slightly sweet and cedary flavor that evolves into a signature Fuente cocoa note. It’s a more elegant take on the OpusX’s classic powerful profile.
Light it up and drift away. We’re heaven bound, friends.
