So say the boxes containing the delicious OpusX 20 Years Celebration cigars.
20 years before the release of this special edition Fuente Fuente OpusX cigar, Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. got to work on an impossible task: growing quality wrapper leaf in the Dominican Republic. Until that point, Dominican tobacco was used as rich filler and binder, but generally not as wrapper. He found excellent soil and eventually found the seed that would help him make his name as one of the best cigar makers ever: Corojo, shade-grown in the Cuban style
He called it, “ProjectX from Planet 9,” at first, but ultimately settled on “OpusX,” remarking sometimes that it “sounds like sex!” That’s marketing for you, but you can’t argue with results. The OpusX immediately took off, earning 90+ ratings and even Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year in 2005. It was hard to find and aficionados were calling retailers round the clock trying to get a few for their own smoking enjoyment.
The cigar brand became so successful that the Fuentes were even sued by Opus One wines for trademark infringement. As with most things at the Arturo Fuente tobacco company, the Fuentes came out on top, and kept making their beloved cigars, which had developed a cult-like following.
The 20 Years Celebration line commemorates the birthday of one of the world’s favorite and most coveted cigars. With vitolas named Believe, Father & Son, God’s Whisper, and Power of a Dream, you can see what OpusX has meant to the Fuentes.
Secure some of these rare luxury smokes for yourself, and find out why OpusX has been on top for 20 years and will probably stay there for many, many more.
