Five Outstanding Sun Grown Cigars

Sun grown, sometimes written as one word, cigars get the name due to their wrappers – sun-grown, of course. The high-priming, plant-ripened leaves are thick, oily and full of flavor noted for its depth and sweetness.
If you haven’t tried a sun-grown cigar, we’ve got several that are ideal for the first foray into these rich stogies. Here’s a look.
Arturo Fuente Sungrown cigars offer medium strength and full flavor. The wrapper is dark and firm, producing a muscular cigar that smokes beautifully. Flavors are tangy and sweet with a pleasing amount of spice. These are limited-quantity cigars of the very highest quality.
Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R cigars offer a gorgeous variation on the theme. They’re affordable too, with an average cost per stick of less than $8. The Vitola 44 was the 5th best cigar of 2012. That’s a great value!
Ashton VSG cigars – that’s Virgin Sun Grown – may be the best-recognized sun-grown on the market. They offer a complex smoke with full body and flavor, so eat a hearty meal first and pair it with a rugged scotch or other beverage that won’t back down from the citrus, cedar, and pepper. We have a great selection of Ashton VSG stogies, including samplers.
The Cuesta Rey Cigars and their Sun Grown blend tend to get overlooked, but it’s a flavorful powerhouse at $5-$6 per stick. The smoke offers roasted nuts, leather and a fair amount of black pepper. It manages to be quite smooth too.
If you’re in the market for a low-cost sun-grown to try, the Nicarao Havana Sungrown features a tasty Havana-seed wrapper with a touch of rosy hue. We’ve got them for $2-$2.50 per stick in boxes of 20. Those are cheap cigars well worth the investment.
Let’s end with a bang, Rocky Patel Sungrown. This is a fantastic cigar in its construction and taste. The lights-out Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, aged five full years, offers mellow smoothness with spicy and sweet notes to discover. The RP Sun Grown is available in several sizes for you to enjoy.
