Long modeled on classic Cuban cigars, the La Gloria Cubana smokes were first rolled in 1968 in a factory in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, FL. They were a hit with the Cuban ex-pat community in town, and their popularity grew. The brand was the brainchild of cigar master Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. who later sold the brand. It is now one of the General Cigar brands. La Gloria Cubana makes other highly rated lines today like the Serie R, Serie N, Serie R Black, Serie R Estelí, Artesanos de Obelisco, and Artesanos Retro Especiale, but the signature cigars continue to be among the most popular. They are affordably priced too at $3.50 to $6.00 per stick in most sizes. These cigars are rolled in two locations, the El Credito cigar factory in Little Havana and in the Dominican Republic. La Gloria Cubana Tobacco Blend and Flavor A Natural and Maduro version of this cigar is available in most vitolas. The blend for both is a rich mix of tobacco from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The binder is Dominican too. The natural wrapper is a medium-brown, handsome Ecuadorian leaf grown from Sumatran seed. The La Gloria Cubana Maduro sports a dark, silky Connecticut Broadleaf grown in the United States. These cigars deliver a medium body and strength. The smoke contains notes of chocolate, coffee, cedar, nuts, oak and a dash of peppery tang over a core of earthy leather. La Gloria Cubana Cigar Ratings Before formalizing the ratings system, Cigar Aficionado gave a La Gloria Cubana cigar a score of 98! CA founder Marvin Shanken called the cigar one of the most delicious he had ever tasted. La Gloria Cubana reviews typically rate these cigars between 86 and 92.
