My Father Limited Edition Garcia y Garcia Robusto Deluxe
This My Father Limited Edition Garcia y Garcia Robusto Deluxe cigar is made in Nicaragua. Outside, you'll find an Ecuadorian Rosado Habano wrapper. Inside, the binder is Nicaraguan, and the filler is Criollo 98 and Pelo de Oro. This is a Robusto cigar with a length of 5.75 and a ring gauge of 52.
Much like Fuente Fuente, Garcia y Garcia is a father/son cigar. It’s quite fitting for this company, since My Father cigars were started from a blend young Jaime Garcia created and brought to his dad, José “Don Pepin” Garcia. The blend was good enough for Don Pepin to rename his company and move in a new direction, going from his El Rey de Los Habanos factory in Miami to focus on operations in Nicaragua.
The company thereafter was called “My Father” cigars, and the blends they created went on to win Cigar Aficionado’s coveted Cigar of the Year award twice (Flor de las Antillas in 2012 and Le Bijou 1922 in 2015). Clearly, they made the right choice to switch things up! It’s been all gravy ever since that first blend of destiny in 2008.
The My Father Limited Edition Garcia y Garcia cigar is yet another collaboration between Jaime and his dad. It first debuted in 2016 and caught on as a very tasty stogie. It uses some of Don Pepin’s signature leaves, like the Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, and aged Nicaraguan long-fillers. These include criollo ‘98 and Pelo de Oro, which is the “golden hair” tobacco that powered the Le Bijou 1922 to the top of the charts. For many years, the Garcias have known just how to blend this forbidden leaf (Cuban growers won’t touch it due to its susceptibility to a particular crop disease) into delicious cigars.
Light up a Garcia y Garcia cigar and enjoy a sip of hearty espresso, a crunch of toasty bread, and a nibble of dark chocolate to go with it. It’s an enjoyable blend that displays a bit of a different side of the family flavors. Instead of Don Pepin’s more common pepper blast or traditional Cuban notes, these Limited Edition Garcia y Garcia cigars bring something new to the table. The tastes are fun and satisfying, and not exactly what you’d expect from My Father. They’re quite pricey, as you might notice, so these are more of a celebration or special occasion cigar. If you do decide to opt for the full box, you’ll be treated to fine woodworking, gorgeous golden inlay, and one of the nicest interiors on the market. These are premium all the way.
