Anu. The lord of the skies. The king of the gods. At least, that’s what he was in old Sumer, which is now Iraq. He’s a legend from a long, long time ago. And El Septimo is offering this homage to his divine gifts. After all, how could we draw through a cigar without the air?
El Septimo Gilgamesh cigars are a blend series drawing inspiration from ancient Mesopotamia, the land between two rivers. Aqua Anu joins King Sargon and Sable Shamash in this holy gathering of scared tobacco rolls. This one is quite special indeed, and truly fit for the One Above All Others in his pantheon. Not only is there a delicious Maduro wrapper on the stogie, but some of the tobaccos inside have been aging for more than a decade.
Of course, when you’re in the mood for contemplating antiquity, a mere ten-year span might seem like nothing. The blink of Anu’s eye. But in both the tobacco world and in divorce court, a decade counts as “long duration.” Save your thousand-year tobaccos for another day.
Like many other El Septimo cigars, Aqua Anu is built primarily around Costa Rican tobacco, although we don’t have the exact specifics on how this blend is put together. If other blends are anything to go by, we’re in pretty decent hands. The company describes this one as “plush” and “velvety smooth,” so they’re definitely offering a particular type of cigar here. People seem to agree that this smoke definitely comes out bready, but also has notes of leather and the company cites cream and brown sugar. We’d be perfectly happy with a blend that struck those notes, and would happily give thanks to God above for an enjoyable aged smoke from a region that doesn’t get much love. One thing’s for sure: you’re probably going to get some interesting notes when you light this one up, thanks to all that aging.
Could be a fun adventure!
