If you’re unfamiliar with Atabey as a brand, Idolos cigars are a perfect way to meet the company. This is one of their premium offerings, built to compete with the better blends of the world, and it actually does quite a nice job of accomplishing its goal. You won’t get a ton of information about the specific tobaccos that go into this one, unfortunately. It’s one of those cigars that lives and dies by word of mouth and the reputation built up in customer reviews.

The wrapper is a ridiculously good-looking Ecuadorian Connecticut. More than that, we can’t confirm, although we have heard that there may be some Peruvian ligero in the long-filler blend. The company has in the past made a practice of combining a number of different exotic tobaccos, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if it were true.

The flavor profile is savory and sweet, with pepper, salt, and some herbal notes on the finish. It’s looking to be a great morning cigar when you want something that’s decent for those classy mornings that call for something special.

The man behind this brand, for the uninitiated, is Nelson Alfonso Egüed. He’s the designer who has been responsible for the Cohiba brand and others for many years and has a number of other cigar accomplishments under his belt. Soon, he may be adding Atabey accolades to his resume, if blends like this are any indication of what’s in store.
