We’ll forgive you if these OpusX releases have gotten too confusing to keep track of. Here’s what you need to know about the *deep breath in* Arturo Fuente Aged Selection FFOX Heaven and Earth Tauros the Bull Natural cigar.
Tauros is part of the Heaven and Earth series, which means it uses some of the most selected aged tobaccos in the Fuente family vaults. OpusX already gets the pick of the field for blends in the line, but Heaven and Earth go to another level. It’s safe to say that these leaves are the best of the best that the company has to offer – the stuff that would have been reserved for private consumption if people had not been willing to pay a pretty penny to get Fuente’s finest.
OpusX itself is well known. It’s a cult-hit Dominican blend that was among the first to pioneer the use of DR tobacco as a wrapper leaf. Cigar Aficionado blessed OpusX as the Cigar of the Year in 2005, and people have been buying it out of stock ever since. Its rich and complex flavor profile is unmistakable and irreplaceable, it seems.
As a result, the Fuentes have created a number of special editions, which can get confusing. Tauros the Bull goes in a group with Purple Rain, BBMF, Rare Black, and Scorpio, which brings us to the inspiration for the name. While Scorpio celebrated founding patriarch Arturo’s astrological sign, Tauros is a nod to the sign of both Don Carlos and Carlito Fuente.
So let’s take the bull by the horns and get a look at this world-class cigar.
The Arturo Fuente Aged Selection FFOX Heaven and Earth Tauros the Bull Natural comes in a fine box crafted by Prometheus artisans in France. Gloss and gold inlay set the mood to lift the lid and get your first look at the stogies themselves. Sporting a purple ribbon, they look positively regal lying in a row of ten.
Put your nose right in there. You gotta take that first whiff to get those delicious woody aromas before you do anything else.
The shape of the Tauros the Bull cigar is a straight-sided parejo, with a rounded head and straight foot. A simple clip or punch at the head, and it’s ready for smoking. The flavor might surprise you, though!
There is nothing super crazy going on with this cigar, even though it’s a super-premium stogie. Instead, it does everything it should while staying totally in balance. A classic Dominican profile makes it fantastic – pepper, leather, cedar, and coffee bean are all right where you’d expect them to be. It’s really quite a traditional smoke in the natural version. An exquisite version of a flavor profile that has been a winner for decades and decades.
Tauros is a great OpusX cigar, doing exactly what it should do and nothing more. For folks who love a good old smoke done right, this is the fancy way to get it.
(Please note that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Arturo Fuente Aged Selection FFOX Heaven and Earth Tauros the Bull Natural is donated to the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, which strives to improve the lives of children in need in the Bonao region of the Dominican Republic.)
