Rather than bore you with the ins and outs of the cigar companies behind the Trinidad Santiago cigar, we’ll tell you the only thing you really need to know: it’s a Rafael Nodal blend. Yes, the same Rafael Nodal behind the 2019 Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year, the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua.
This time, though, we’re headed to the Dominican Republic for tobacco.
The filler, binder, and wrapper are all Dominican leaf, making this a fine Dominican puro out of Jochy Blanco’s Tabacalera Palma factory. It’s all Habano seed, and the flavors are really satisfying: sweet cream, roasted nuts, and a wealth of cooking spices. Dominican tobacco always seems to bring a nice complexity, and we’re getting a much-needed puff of it in the Trinidad Santiago cigar. There’s also a number of fruity notes that reviewers have called out, so we’re guessing that smoke fans who like to savor the flavors will find a lot to enjoy in this one.
We’re pretty far off the beaten path with this cigar – it’s definitely a smoke for people who need a departure from the usual notes you find in many of the best-selling blends out there. If you’re a cigar adventurer, consider giving this one a shot. We’re curious to hear people’s reactions to the Trinidad cigar lines as things go along and the brand develops.
