Trinidad Espiritu Series No.1
Originally, Trinidad was known as a Cuban cigar brand (and it wasn’t named for the island of Trinidad, but for a city in Cuba). The versions available at Cigars Direct, however, are non-Cubans created for sale in the United States by Altadis in collaboration with highly skilled blenders.
In this case, A.J. Fernandez was tapped to create a properly Cubanesque cigar using Nicaraguan tobacco, as he does nearly every day. As his work on countless 90+ rated blends has shown, A.J. knows how to work with Nicaraguan leaf to produce a variety of flavors. If you’ve smoked New World, San Lotano, Diesel cigars, or any of his premium collaborations, you’ll have experienced A.J.’s sought-after blending style.
Seriously, the guy’s got his leaves into half the blends on the market, it seems.
For the Trinidad Espiritu No. 1 cigar, the flavors are rich and complex. We’ve seen a huge range of flavors cited here, but you can count on the staples of A.J. Fernandez Nicaraguan cigars: red pepper up front, cedar and roasted nuts in the core, and interesting side notes on the finish like sweet hay. If you’d like a high-quality throwback cigar, give this one a shot. It does a decent job of sticking to the mission and is a nice cigar in its own right as well.
