Ah, Tatuaje torpedo cigars: a world-class blend in a classic shape. Every time we see one, we’re immediately reminded of old school cartoons where trick cigars explode in character’s faces. After all, no one can resist a perfectly rolled torpedo, not even a cartoon cat.
The torpedo is a kind of figurado – a shaped smoke. It was more popular decades ago in Cuba than it is today, but that just gives cigar makers a reason to revive it as a throwback. While many cigars on the market are parejos with straight sides and a simple rounded head, the torpedo is rolled with flair into something far more interesting. Have you ever clipped a smoke and thought, “Man, I wish his thing tapered instead of having this huge ring gauge at the head. This isn’t going to be comfortable to puff on”?
If so, Tatuaje Torpedo Cigars are for you.
Torpedoes can be tapered at both ends, actually, but most often it will just be the head. There may also be a bit of a bulge in the middle. The big advantage is in how you cut it. Unlike parejos that give you less control over how big your drawing opening will be, the torpedo lets you go super small, medium, or larger. Just take care not to cut so deep that you cause the cigar to unravel. After that, you will enjoy concentrated smoke thanks to the tapering of the head, which can lead to a different flavor experience than you’d get with a standard cigar shape.
Tatuaje Torpedo Cigars are not found in all of the company’s product lines and blends. It’s a bit harder to roll than a parejo cigar, and so companies don’t always decide to mass-produce them. Instead, torpedoes are often a bit of a gift to the smokers who enjoy them, as opposed to an offering that the whole world is expected to love. Some folks may even be intimidated by them. After all, each cigar type is a new learning journey, and people like to stick with what they know and what makes them comfortable. Give torpedoes a shot, though, and you might find something you really like.
Generally, you can find torpedoes in Tatuaje’s Havana VI, Conoju, Negociant Monopole, Triunfador, and certain other lines. Find a blend that speaks to you and we’ll load up our tubes for launch.
