If you look at Tatuaje founder Pete Johnson, you won’t have to wonder how he picked the name of his company, which means “tattoo” in Spanish. That makes the Tatuaje Tattoo cigar the “tattoo tattoo” cigar. Overkill? Well, what do you expect from a dude who thought he was going to make his living rocking out as a bassist for a band? When he’s in on something, he’s clearly in.
Anyway, the rock and roll dreams gave way to a passion for cigars and tobacco that wound up taking him to the upper reaches of the cigar industry, and we’re quite happy he put the bass aside and picked up the leaf instead.
These namesake smokes bring many of the qualities that the brand is known for: flavorful Nicaraguan tobacco blends and a tendency to embrace the rustic and natural, rather than try and defeat it to produce overworked perfection. Add in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and you get a nice, medium-bodied smoke that delivers flavors of leather, pepper, cocoa, and a touch of molasses.
Got ink? Getting ink? This is a smoke for anyone that’s ever sat in the chair and heard that electric needle start buzzin’, heralding a time of pain and pure individualism. Be you, folks. There’s no one else who can do the job.
