Tatuaje style is a little bit different than all the other cigar companies out there. Or at least, it was. There’s good company now for Pete Johnson and his aesthetic. But back in the earlier years of the company’s founding, the Tatuaje vibe was a bit more distinctive. Tatuaje hats let you get a little bit of that into your life.
Those who know the background of Pete Johnson understand how his company and brand were shaped. There was a time when Pete was just a young metal bass player in LA, trying to make it with his band Hung Jury. During practice, he’d often have a cigar going, and he also worked in cigar shops. As he accumulated tattoos (aka “tatuaje” in Spanish) and cigar knowledge, he slowly moved closer and closer to what would ultimately become his business, career, and another strong passion: cigars.
The picture of that young guy with tats and a stogie going is what is conjured up when we see Tatuaje hats.
There’s not a ton on our shelves, but the signature looks to be the snapback black on black. The look is right at the intersection of metal and cigars and reminds us of the Pete Johnson of years gone by. Now going grey, it’s a new Pete that we see, but the soul of his brand is still where it needs to be.
Even if you’re not huge into cigars, Tatuaje hats look cool. If you are, they give you a chance to rep a great brand and send a message about your style and who you are. Or, maybe they’re just a way to keep the sun out of your eyes. You decide.
