Back in the early 2000s, no one knew where Tatuaje would go. Hell, no one even knew the company existed! Ten years after the launch of Tatuaje Cigars, however, everyone knows what the deal is – these cigars are fantastic – and the Tatuaje 10 Year Anniversary cigars are here to help us celebrate.
The circumstances surrounding the launch of Tatuaje were fairly modern by cigar industry standards. While many leading premium cigar makers have deep, multi-generational roots in the tobacco fields of places like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua, Tatuaje can trace its roots back to fields far too cold for most of the year to grow decent cigar tobacco: Maine. That’s the home state of Pete Johnson, the founder of Tatuaje Cigars.
As the story goes, Pete was in Los Angeles chasing a dream as a heavy metal guitarist. He also worked in cigar shops, and his passion gradually led to him taking on increased responsibility until he found himself in a position as a buyer. Deeper into the world of cigars he went, eventually deciding to try his hand at creating his own blend. He began working with a blender named José Garcia, who you may know now as “Pepin” Garcia, the artisan behind My Father Cigars, which has produced two Cigar Aficionado “Cigar of the Year” winners. Well, before all that, there was just Pete and Pepin, working together to find the right blend.
They did – and fast! The first cigar was launched in 2003. In 2004, Cigar Aficionado rated Tatuaje Cabinet Especiales at a 90. And the next year, Tatuaje Cabinet Tainos graced Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 list at #4, with a 93 rating. Tatuaje was on the map in a big way.
Now, you can celebrate success with this delicious Nicaraguan blend – the Tatuaje 10 Year Anniversary cigar. It’s triple-capped, which is a classic Cuban-style cap that provides a nice, tight head that holds well together after cutting or punching. The rest of the cigar is snugly tucked in with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Signature Nicaraguan coffee, leather, and spice flavors make this stick one to remember.
