This may be good news or bad news to you, depending on whether you smoked the original, but Sancho Panza Double Maduro cigars have been reborn and reblended. This was a bold step indeed because the original was something of a classic. And it’s not a stretch to say that. Many, many people swore by it. It was described as smooth, buttery, and delicious. Without question, the original is a go-to blend for plenty of smokers.
But that’s now in the past.
So, why change it up? Well, obviously, not everyone agreed on the quality of the blend. The team thought that they could put together something even more enjoyable for the modern Sancho Panza, and the Double Maduro was reworked. Whether that will be viewed in retrospect as a good move or not is entirely up to you.
The new Sancho Panza Double Maduro cigar has some really nice tobacco rolled into it. The long-fillers are from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The binder is grown in the beloved soil of Estelí. And the wrapper is an interesting Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf. The whole cigar has a rough and rustic appearance, signaling a hearty flavor that skips refinement and beauty in exchange for earthy honesty.
The whole project is part of an effort by Matt Booth, founder of Room 101, who worked as Creative Director for these Sancho Panza Double Maduro cigars, as well as the refreshed SP Extra Fuerte and Connecticut blends.
The vibe of the Latin culture of West L.A. was used as inspiration to create this blend. But it ain’t all sunshine and cervezas. Instead, the flavor profile is cedar, cherry, black tea, and spice. It’s in the soil, but has plenty of personality and brings a lot of life to what was once a more of a chill blend.
Sancho Panza was the squire of Don Quixote in the classic novel by Cervantes. In the story, Panza brought reality checks to Quixote, who was lost in an imaginary world in which he was a noble knight. Do you need something to bring you back down to earth, while at the same time wrapping you up in the clouds? This is a perfect blend to get it done.
Adios.
