Rocky Patel got started back in the cigar boom of the '90s when mild cigars and small vitolas were all the rage. Well, Rocky made his name breaking that first rule, coming out with lots of reasonably potent maduros. Now he's venturing into larger cigar territory, in keeping with the modern trend for gigantic sticks.
Rocky's classics are still generally robustos, torpedos, or toros. But if you know where to look there are some really excellent Rocky Patel Gordo cigars.

Rocky Patel LB1 Sixty GordoA lot of people think big cigars need powerful flavors. But as the LB1 Sixty shows, a big ring gauge can push medium-bodied cigars to incredible new heights. That's where Rocky Patel Gordo cigars really shine: subtle palates made largely. The LB1 Sixty's combo of intense Honduran long-fillers and mellow Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper delivers cedar, cream, dark berries, raisins, cedar, and oak. Like many Rocky Patel Gordo cigars, it's great out of the box and even better once it's been aged for a few months.
Rocky Patel ITC Super Fuerte Maduro GordoIf the LB1 Sixty takes a mild cigar and makes it bolder and more interesting, the ITC Super Fuerte Maduro is one of the strongest of all Rocky Patel Gordo cigars. It takes a strong cigar and makes it a powerhouse. Broadleaf wrapper and Nicaraguan, Costa Rican, and Honduran fillers make for a heady brew of fresh white oak, rich chocolate, dark moist earth, meaty leather, and intense black pepper. With an open draw that delivers enormous clouds of smoke, this is one heck of an addition to the lineup of Rocky Patel Gordo cigars.
Rocky Patel Royal Vintage Sixty GordoThe Vintage series is the final word in ultra-premium Rocky Patel Gordo cigars or RP cigars in general. And the Royal Vintage is one of the best around with 10-year-old fillers and a 7-year-old Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The great thing about Rocky Patel Gordo cigars is that the long-fillers really get to shine and add an enormous amount of body to the smoke. With fillers this well-aged, that's a truly spectacular thing. Each puff of chewy smoke is immensely creamy and satisfying with rich flavors of crème brûlée, toasted nuts, nutmeg, cloves, cocoa, and cedar. Darn delicious and one of the better Rocky Patel Gordo cigars.
