The Punch cigar brand split into two companies some time ago. One still produces cigars in Cuba, while the other makes cigars in Honduras for the U.S. market (naturally, these are the ones we carry). It’s this Honduran factory that makes Punch Deluxe cigars.
Punch Deluxe cigars are meant to be a bit of an upgrade from the Punch core line, in the sense that they’re a bit more flavorful, not necessarily stronger. The long-filler blend combines tobacco from Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. The binder is a spicy, earthy Connecticut broadleaf. For the wrapper, you’ve got two choices: Ecuador Sumatra and Connecticut broadleaf Maduro. This means you can choose from two fairly different flavor profiles. The sun-grown Sumatra version offers smoke with the tastes of cedar and vanilla, while the broadleaf Maduro Punch Deluxe cigar is more spicy and nutty at the end of the day.
Most folks would agree that these cigars are not really a place for beginners to start. Even the name should be enough to scare newbies off: Punch Deluxe. But for cigar lovers who enjoy a flavorful and rich blend, you’re going to find something to enjoy here. Honduran tobacco is known for its spice and flavor, but when you add that Connecticut broadleaf in there, you get a tobacco beast that’s hard to tame. This is a great cigar for guys or gals who just aren’t getting enough of a tongue tickle from the average smoke, or who need a break from mild cigars.
