Plasencia Cosecha 149 cigars herald the offering up of Plasencia’s one hundred and forty-ninth tobacco harvest. That’s what the Spanish word “cosecha” means in English: harvest. This company has an incredibly long history that puts it in the class with other legendary heritage brands like H. Upmann, Punch, Romeo y Julieta, and a few select others. Now, we’ve got another golden year of delicious tobacco to enjoy.

For those who know the Plasencias, the composition of this blend may be a bit of a surprise. It’s a Honduran puro! Most companies don’t focus on Honduran tobacco, but for those who do, it can be very rewarding. Alec Bradley, Camacho, CLE, and others have used it to great effect. Honduran leaf imparts a rich and spicy natural tobacco flavor that is a serious treat when you’re in the mood for it. And for those keeping track, it’s only 40 miles as the crow flies from Estelí, Nicaragua, whose tobacco is all the rage at the time of this writing.

Plasencia Cosecha 149 cigars feature a long-filler blend from the Jamastran Valley, Talanga, and Olancho. The binder also comes from this region, while the luscious dark wrapper was grown in Olancho, San Agustín. This wrapper was also found on the Cohiba Weller and Partagas Legend, so if you enjoyed those you may find yet another tasty blend that uses said leaf.

Lighting up a Plasencia Cosecha 149 cigar offers an unsurprising pepper blast that Honduran cigar lovers will be expecting. It comes in strong and right away. The follow up of chocolate covered espresso beans is a welcome core note that carries through the cigar for quite some time. And a note of tilled earth is there, marking the stogie as a pure Honduran, through and through. The smoke is full of flavor – an earthy feast that shows that if you cultivate tobacco for over a hundred years, you definitely learn a few things.
