The Padrón family has a great affinity for celebrating special occasions by releasing absolutely world-class cigars – and for that, we are tremendously grateful. In the Special Release category (as of this writing), you’ll find a number of “anniversary” cigars to commemorate milestones like the company’s 40th and 50th years in business, as well as the 80th and 90th birthdays of company founder Jose O. Padrón.
Most of these are exquisite special release cigars from the two-time Cigar of the Year winner 1926 Anniversary line. “Wait, the 40th anniversary cigar is in the 1926 Anniversary line? What the hell?” We know, it gets confusing. We told you, these guys are a little crazy when it comes to celebrating milestones and sometimes it all just blends together like fine tobacco leaves. Just focus on the facts: these are best-ever blends that will probably be the very finest cigar in your humidor once they arrive.
It might make a little more sense if you hear a bit about the company’s rich history and key years. Jose Padrón was born in 1926 to tobacco farmers in Cuba. He left the island around the time of the revolution. He landed in Miami and started working as a carpenter (see the tiny hammer on the cigar band?). The man saved enough to get one tiny cigar line going – in 1964 - and sold his stick dirt cheap. 25 cents per! But it sold. Eventually, he saw the light and was introduced to Nicaraguan tobacco. A few years of distribution and he realized where his true home should be. The company and family survived factory fires, revolutions, embargoes, and more.
Today, the family can still be found producing the world’s best cigars right from their factory in Nicaragua. They celebrate the birth of Jose and the founding of the company in so many cigars, and a few of them are right here, as Padrón Special Releases.
Put confusion aside - Padrón is the only company to win Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year three times. These are, without exaggeration, some of the world’s finest cigars.
