Early in the brand’s history, the Olivas blended up a fine cigar they called the “Grand Cameroon.” It did well, like the company’s other sticks, and immediately pulled in a 91 rating from Cigar Aficionado, as well as being named the #11 cigar of 2006.
Today, the Oliva “Serie G,” as it’s now known, still sports a genuine African Cameroon wrapper. That wonderfully nutty, woody flavor is still there, and it sits atop the taste of the cigar’s Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Habano filler and binder. It’s also available with a rich Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper for those who want a darker, more coffeelike flavor.
This is a great cigar when you need a break from Oliva’s other blends, which are just “too good.” The 96-rated Cigar of the Year winning Serie V Melanio? Too rich. The 94-rated Serie O? Still a little too luxurious. The 91 rated Oliva Serie G, though? Just right!
After all, not every day is a special day. Some days you just need a normal stick you can fire up and enjoy without having to wonder if you really deserve it, or if you’re being too indulgent (yes, some people feel this way about smoking ultra-premium cigars). This cigar is there for occasions when you don’t want to have to focus on the flavor profile like you’re taking a final exam.
Just cut it, light it up, and enjoy.
