When Eduardo León Jimenes founded the La Aurora brand in 1903 and opened a factory in the Dominican Republic, most cigar smokers felt Cuba was the only country capable of rolling up premium sticks. To Eduardo León, however, this belief did not stand in the way of his dream to create a premium cigar brand with a global dimension. Eduardo León's father and grandfather were tobacco growers, so he was quite familiar with the region's ability to produce high-quality tobacco. So with inherited land and six employees, Eduardo León got down to business.
The La Aurora cigar brand believes strongly in the importance of family. This idea stretches beyond the blood of the founding family and to the over 1,000 personnel they employ today. This is a company that operates as a horizontal organization where employees have more authority to make decisions without the approval of a supervisor. This structure creates an environment of trust, respect, self-worth, and family. This extended family operates according to the values of great attention to detail, quality control, and utilizing patience to take as long as needed to provide cigar enthusiasts with top-quality products every time.
A century in business is a hell of an achievement for any company, especially in the cigar industry, where the challenges are numerous and ongoing, and the hardships often include revolutions that either end or pause production, as La Aurora experienced around the year 1930. First released in 2003, La Aurora 100 Años cigars celebrate this 100-year milestone with a blend Cigar Aficionado called a “flavorful masterpiece” and named it the No.2 cigar of 2004.
La Aurora 100 Años cigars are Dominican puros, and there is something special about each portion of the blend. Making up the core are high-quality long-fillers from the Cibao Valley, which were harvested in 1996. The binder is also grown in the fertile soils of the Cibao Valley, harvested in 1996. The finishing touch is a Corojo wrapper leaf with a light shimmer to it. This all leads to luscious notes of cedar, honey, sweetness, and bitter cocoa. La Aurora 100 Años cigars are released in limited quantities, so grab yours while you still can!
