The Herrera Esteli Miami cigar has earned a 92-point rating from Cigar Aficionado, and just managed to make the Top 25 Cigars of the Year list at #25. Trust us, there’s no better group to be at “the bottom” of. Remember: the rest of the cigars made last year aren’t even there. This is the cream of the crop, folks.
For those who don’t know, Willy Herrera is a master blender who has been given free reign at Drew Estate to make the most impressive Cuban-style cigars he can. His first efforts have been smash hits, with both the Habano and Norteno blends scoring 90+ marks and landing near the top of the best of the year lists. Now, in this follow up, yet again we’re smoking on dynamite.
The Herrera Esteli Miami uses a luscious Ecuador Habano Oscuro wrapper to bring Cuban-style flavor to the blend. Then, inside, there’s an Ecuador Sumatra binder and an intriguing Dominican and Nicaraguan filler. The smoke comes out with medium-full body and the irresistible flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, cedar, almonds, and a light citrus and espresso finish. We’re loving the journey Mr. Herrera is taking us on from one cigar line to the next, and this is another fantastic extension to the Herrera Esteli group.
As we said, Willy was tapped by Drew Estate in part to bring as much Cuban style as possible. The distinct Cuban influence can be seen in the labor intensive entubar rolling, the flavors of the tobacco leaves chosen, and really in every centimeter of the cigars he makes. Heck, these are even made at the El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami and, we’re told, are only rolled up by a core group of talented Cuban torcedores. Everything lines up, and the result is superb.
