Once upon a time, Gurkha was a small-run boutique cigar company only sold through duty-free shops and certain private transactions. Eventually, it gained a small reputation for ridiculously expensive cigars. As time went on, it became clear that the company was here to stay, and owner Kaizad Hansotia had his team blend up a cigar for brick and mortar retailers to help it grow and enter the mainstream.
The first cigar to land in the local cigar shops was the original Cellar Reserve.
To honor that milestone, Gurkha has issued a number of special editions in the Cellar Reserve line. First was the Cellar Reserve 15 Year, with delicious aged Dominican tobacco. The second was the Cellar Reserve Edition Limitada, which swapped the original Criollo wrapper for a nice dark Brazilian Maduro. We didn’t really think there was anywhere to go from there. After all, where can you really get your hands on tobacco older than that?
Ask the Gurkha folks. Apparently, they can get anything they want!
This third installment, the Gurkha Cellar Reserve Edicion Especial cigar, ups the ante even further, with an incredibly rare 18-year-aged Corojo wrapper leaf. Inside that is a Dominican binder and long-filler blend. The combination brings a wealth of complex flavor to the smoke, which comes out with a full body for a satisfying experience. You’ll get the flavors of earth and coffee early on, progressing into raspberry and vanilla bean, then finishing with baking spice, nuts, and candy sweetness.
It’s no joke.
If you opt for the full box, you’ll get a lavish “piano finish” mahogany box, which, in true Gurkha fashion, is ideal for desktop or table display. You don’t hide your Gurkha boxes. After all, nobody puts Gurkha in a corner.
Nobody.
