In the Old Testament, the Tabernacle was the portable earthly dwelling place of God. Within was the “holy of holies” that contained the Ark of the Covenant (that thing that melted the Nazi’s faces in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark). Now, put your reactions to that aside for a moment, and simply understand that a tabernacle is a sacred “container” that you can take from place to place. Sound familiar yet? We’ll spare you the suspense.
If cigars are sacred to you, your humidor is a tabernacle of sorts. It is for Nick Melillo, owner of Foundation cigars. He recalls, "I started smoking cigars with my grandfather, and it was a time I always considered to be sacred. I was able to learn valuable life lessons, and it all revolved around broadleaf cigars. My humidor became my tabernacle." When you love cigars a lot, a humidor isn’t just storage – it’s where you keep items for a ritual that is special in many ways.
The Foundation Tabernacle cigar features a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper around a Mexican San Andrés binder and a filler blend that includes tobacco from La Soledad farm in Estelí, Nicaragua, as well as Honduras. It’s a 90-rated smoke that tastes of cocoa, rich wood, and black pepper. If you’re having a smoke in the presence of the Lord (and when aren’t you, really?), you could find ones a lot worse than this.
For those who are curious, the band shows Haile Selassie, the 225th emperor of Ethiopia. Some Rastafarians considered him a living god (the second coming of Christ or “Jah” himself). If you listen to enough reggae, you’ll come across references to his name. He was said to be a descendent of King Solomon, in whose temple the Tabernacle was kept after the biblical Jews’ “wandering in the desert” period was over. So that’s the connection to the cigar.
It is unclear where the Ark of the Covenant is today, and many claim to have it, but Tabernacle cigars are a lot more straightforward. We know just where they are, and we’re happy to send out servants carrying a box of them to you wherever you dwell.
