The Undercrown Shade Flying Pigs are a fine departure from the Liga formula. Instead of dark and earthy tobacco, the blend is built around flavorful and light leaves, like the Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper, Sumatra binder, and Dominican long-fillers. While the Undercrown Maduro (the first of the Undercrown line), was close to the blend of the Liga Privada No. 9, the Undercrown shade is its own cigar. This is thanks to the influence of blender and collaborator Willy Herrera, the artisan behind Herrera Esteli.

The taste of the Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig starts with a hit of white pepper. Then it mellows out into a sweet tea and cream flavor which is quite welcome after all the darkness of the other Undercrowns and Ligas out there. That longer cigar you see in the picture of the Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig and Feral Sampler is called a "Feral Pig". That's a Drew Estate Unico Series blend that comes right out of experiments on the original Liga Privada No. 9 cigars. The tradeoff is that the original Connecticut broadleaf has been switched out for the Connecticut Habano Maduro leaf. With the broadleaf gone, the Drew Estate Feral Pig is still full strength and full flavor but is all about dark chocolate, espresso, and leather. And unlike the Flying Pigs, this one has a 5 3/8" length to give you a bit more time to kick back and enjoy things.

Looking for a lighter smoke in the Undercrown line? The Undercrown Shade is Liga-inspired, but the similarities end there. The Feral Pig is a lot closer to the 94-rated original No. 9 blend, though.
