Diesel Whiskey Row cigars are a collaboration between Diesel’s A.J. Fernandez and Rabbit Hole Bourbon. Diesel stated that this partnership “speaks of going against the grain in traditional industries.” They go on to say that both brands are young and full of energy. Neither Diesel nor Rabbit Hole is afraid to push the envelope.
If you’re a whiskey person, think of all the cigars you smoked that leveled up with the right glass or two of your favorite brand. The idea with Diesel Whiskey Row cigars is to add a modern spin to this timeless pairing by aging binder leaves in bourbon barrels first used to age Rabbit Hole Bourbon.
In 2016, the bourbon barrels first arrived at A.J.’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
First, the Mexican San Andres binder leaves are thoughtfully placed in the bourbon barrels. During the aging process, the air inside these barrels is controlled to help the bourbon flavors spread evenly through the leaves. A.J. said he is very pleased with the added layer of aroma and flavor just beneath the wrapper. He went on to state that smoking Whiskey Row cigars will engage your senses, unlike any other cigar.
Featured in Diesel Whiskey Row cigars is a blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers from Jalapa, Condega, and Ometepe. All of these aged for five to eight years. The bourbon barrel-aged San Andres binder covers these. Wrapping all of this up is a five-year-aged Ecuadoran Habano leaf. When the spicy Nicaraguan tobacco meets the subtle sweetness of the wrapper and binder, they deliver a unique cigar experience with flavors of spice, bourbon, and sweetness, along with some floral notes on the finish.
These cigars received a 91 rating from Cigar Aficionado. As A.J. said, they engage the sense in ways you may not have experienced with a cigar. Better do some first-hand investigating of your own and grab a box today.
