What’s up, my gringo? If you’re a white devil, this is a cigar for you. The CLE Chele cigar is named after a slang word for a white person or someone with light skin. If you’re already offended, don’t worry. This blend has a twin cigar named the “Prieto,” which means someone with dark skin, so everyone is covered by these releases from Christian Eiroa.
Race wars aside, this is simply a cigar with a light-colored wrapper. It’s a tasty Ecuador Connecticut leaf, and it brings really delicious flavor into the blend. CLE Chele cigars are the company’s first made in Nicaragua, and they incorporate some high-quality Nicaraguan long-filler tobacco into the blend. It’s nice to see a company that’s so focused on Honduran tobacco branch out and deliver something a little different.
Toast this one up and you’ll get a greeting from the CLE Chele cigar white pepper note. Once that dies down a touch, you’ll be able to detect some of the subtler notes, like butter cookie and apricot. It’s a great example of a modern Connecticut and one that fans of Ecuador-grown CT tobacco should try out when their supply runs dry.
CLE stands for Christian Luís Eiroa, a man who has worked in tobacco for decades. As the former president of Camacho, he’s overseen the creation of quite a few spectacular blends. Now, continuing to build his solo reputation, Mr. Eiroa is again adding Nicaraguan cigars to his portfolio. We’re eagerly awaiting the feedback on these sticks – it could be a whole new era for CLE cigars.
